On October 24 we gathered from all across the state to worship together. Our special guest was M Barclay, Associate Director of Communications for the Reconciling Ministries Network. M generously agreed to share their manuscript with us. Their message was entitled, “Making Hope in the Church When Discrimination Against LGBTQ People Persists.”
M Barclay serves as RMN’s Associate Director of Communications. A life-long Methodist seeking ordination as a deacon, M hails from Florida where they worked for the Wesley Foundation and received a BA in Communications. While later attending seminary at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, they worked as a hospital chaplain and volunteered in local advocacy efforts. Since, they have served as Justice Associate and Youth Director at University UMC in Austin, Texas and as Faith Network Coordinator at Texas Freedom Network. M has experience organizing around issues of gender, sexuality, housing, and reproductive rights and is passionate about the intersections of faith and society. They have a partner, Annanda, who is seeking ordination in the Presbyterian church, and has two beloved dogs.
